Community Bridge

bringing people together

A message from
Cllr Andrew Kennedy

We are fortunate to live in a community where so many people give so freely of their time and skill for the benefit of others. In church buildings, schools, community centres, village halls and public spaces, we are well served by events and activities. From choirs to campanology, friendship to fitness and book clubs to breakfast clubs – there is something to appeal to everyone. In fact, over 150 different activities have registered.

And for the first time – information about these is accessible in one place. Using the search buttons above you can find activities by village or by type. For example, you can select your local village, and all the events and activities in your village will appear.  Likewise, you can select a type of activity, for example music, and every music group and choir will appear. It’s as simple as that. When you see an activity that interests you, simply click on “more info” button and you will be able to read all about it, where and when it meets, how much (if anything) it costs, accessibility who to contact for more information.

This new website was made possible by a £3,000 grant from T&MBCs Shared Prosperity Fund. I am grateful to my colleague Cllr Des Keers for bringing this to my attention.

A further donation from my Kent County Council Member’s Grant will ensure it is maintained and regularly updated. I would like to thank our local Parish Clerks - Nicola Greenaway (Ditton) Melanie Randall (Aylesford), Pam Saunders (Burham) and Tina Miles (Wouldham) for their help and encouragement, and also a team of willing volunteers who worked hard identifying local activity organisers and encouraging them to register.

It would not have been possible without their help.

I must also mention our former Member of Parliament, Dame Tracey Crouch, whose work on loneliness and social isolation encouraged me to do this. There is evidence that feeling part of an active, caring and inclusive community makes a major contribution to physical, emotional and mental health.

I hope this new website will play a role in bringing people together for the benefit of not only ourselves, but our wider communities.
